I have an ASUS O-Play, Western Digital and Patriot Box office hooked up to my various TV's. The Asus is connected to a Plasma hard wired and the Western Digital is connected to an LCD via wireless N dongle. I now have the Patriot hard wired to ethernet, initially I had it on wireless N dongle as well, but it is connected to an older 32" CRT set.
I was unable to play any hidef content with the Patriot, but was just blaming it on the wireless connection, so when I recently moved the old CRT to another corner of the room, I decided to connect it via ethernet. After I connected it I tried to play an MP4 file but I got the same bad artifacting I got before on the wireless. However I was able to play some hidef mkv and all wmv files ok, some mkv files play sound and no picture. I am able to play all these files ok on my ASUS, which I understand has the same chipset, so I don't get it, unless it has something to do with feeding the signal to a standard def TV.
I have used the PBO very seldom, and have not updated the firmware at all since I got it some time ago. Could a firmware update fix this problem, or could it have something to do with the standard def TV receiving the signal? ( I haven't tried swapping it with the ASUS yet)
