I was able to see the PBO with stock firmware as Venus. Now that I've upgraded to Mede8er, I can't figure out how to show the PBO box in my Windows network. This was very convenient as I was able to copy videos to the PBO from a Windows PC.
Thanks!
The PBO name under MedeBO is configurable (from the network setup section).
Just make sure SAMBA is enabled.
Regardless of the name you can use the IP instead to access the box.
hello aasoror,
is there some easy way (for windows administrator) how to change a name for workgroup ?
i have at home 12 devices in my group, but only 2 PBOs in "workgroup"
of course, i was always use a IP address instead name .., i just want to somehow cleanup a workgoup names :o)
many thanks for any idea
check here.
Best of luck
If you add the line
workgroup = home
to these files.
/tmp/package/samba/lib/smb_anonymous_head.conf
/tmp/package/samba/lib/smb_user_head.conf
I run P70R02 with boot code 18 official firmware for now. I wished to apply the recommendation to fix the workgroup and netbios name, but I don't find the "head" versions of the mentioned files in /lib/. I found them in the /conf/ which are read only. If I vi the ones in /lib/, I.E. smb_anonymous.conf and smb_user.conf, they get overwritten the next boot. I understand that the FW runs in RAM drive so it sounds normal to me it gets freshly reloaded in RAM every reboot. How can you make this permanent W/O customizing your F/W?
Is this tweak only works in non official or semi official FW?
If you want to permanently edit write only files you can:
- extract the firmware image, edit the files, repack and reflash.
- use a semi-official firmware where root partition can be remounted as read/write and edits are persistent.
I just flashed the P70R2 Megapack semi official FW, but still need to remount root partition if I understand right.
1. Is P70R2 Megapack is considered as a remountable root ?
2. If so, can you pin point me a thread to do so?

True.

Yes

telnet to the PBO user:root without a pass (google for further info about telnet).
once logged in just type:
mount -o remount,rw /
